Step 2: Smile Design

Your custom smile design focuses heavily on occlusion (how your bite functions) and facial aesthetics, including how your teeth are revealed when you smile, and the symmetry, contour, and color of your teeth. Your treatment plan will reflect your unique needs and smile specifications. The goal is a beautiful, functional smile that will complement your facial aesthetics, lips, and even skin tone. We’ll use our sophisticated Digital Smile Design technology to virtually create your new smile in 3D, so you can visualize how you’ll look!

You’ll then go through the series of treatments needed to restore your smile aesthetics. We complete all these right at Smile Design Dentistry. This may include some Invisalign, traditional orthodontics, or crowns to reestablish a protected bite that will function well over the years.

1

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are porcelain “caps” that cover your natural tooth. They can dramatically improve aesthetics like color, size, and shape of a tooth while also restoring strength and function as well. Crowns can also be used after root canal therapy [link to root canals] and to restore a dental implant.

2

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a series of porcelain dental crowns that replace one or more missing teeth in a row. They attach to one or both teeth on either side of the empty tooth socket(s) to replace aesthetics and function to the area and restore a complete smile after tooth loss.

3

Dental Veneers

If you have cosmetic flaws like gaps, chips, crookedness, and discoloration we offer dental veneers in Plymouth, MN to treat all of these at once. Each veneer is a thin shell that covers the front surface of a single tooth. Dental veneers require a minimal amount of tooth enamel to be removed so they fit naturally alongside each other or existing teeth.

4

Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening can brighten teeth multiple shades whiter in just a single session! Our professional-grade treatment in Plymouth, MN soaks deep into the inner layers of your teeth to remove deep stains alongside surface-level stains. Teeth whitening from our cosmetic dentist is personalized and monitored for stunning, long-term results.

5

Orthodontics

Dental braces use metal brackets and wires to straighten crooked teeth by strategically applying torque and pressure. From minor gapped or crooked teeth to severely misaligned bites, our orthodontic options can provide significant cosmetic results. Braces often take a few months to a few years to completely align teeth depending on your unique case.

6

Invisalign®

Invisalign® orthodontics is a series of clear plastic aligners used to straighten crooked teeth. They are virtually invisible when worn, making them a popular solution with social teens and professional adults alike. Invisalign aligners are removable so you can eat what you want and maintain proper oral hygiene with ease.

7

Bite Correction

A bite correction helps create a harmonious bite for teeth that don’t fit together properly (malocclusion). This treatment involves altering the surfaces of the problem teeth so the pressure and force when biting and chewing are distributed evenly. Bite corrections help reduce teeth grinding and clenching, jaw pain, and headaches, while also protecting other cosmetic dentistry treatments you receive.

8

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are the metal-free alternative to amalgam fillings that are similarly durable but have greater aesthetics. Composite is naturally tooth-colored, so the filling will blend with your tooth. They can replace metal fillings to eliminate the noticeable gray or black spots on teeth.

9

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays fix teeth with moderate damage that does not require a dental crown. Inlays rest inside the molars, between the cusps, and often restore a tooth after a large cavity is treated. Onlays are custom-made to replace a larger portion of a tooth, usually involving one or more cusps.

10

Crown Lengthening

A “gummy” smile is when too much gum tissue covers over the tooth crowns and creates a disproportionate tooth-to-gum ratio. Crown lengthening reshapes the gums around the teeth more symmetrically and aesthetically. This procedure may also be completed to access areas of the tooth that have decay.

11

Dental Implants

Dental implants in Plymouth, MN permanently replace one or more missing teeth to restore normal function and natural aesthetics. Implants are considered the “gold standard” in tooth replacement due to their superior strength and longevity. They also provide the greatest health benefits by being secured in the jawbone.
